ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (4-7, 3-2 E8) women's lacrosse team scored 11 unanswered goals in the second half en route to a 19-7 win over Alfred University (1-7, 0-4 E8) in Empire 8 action from RIT Field on Sunday.
Sophomore #
Shelby Vakiener (Fairport, NY/Fairport)# tied a school record for points in a game with 11 versus Alfred. She led the Tigers with six goals and five assists, tying Sarah Maneri for most points in a game. Vakiener needs six points to set the single season record for points and moves into seventh all-time in points with 115.
Junior captain #
Rebecca Lampson (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan Academy)# also had a stellar day offensively, tallying five goals and dishing out two assists. Lampson is now just nine points away from 100 for her career.

Loren Azlein (Cleveland, OH/Gilmour Academy) and
Erin York (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeyoye Falls-Lima)# each had two goals, while #
Carly Augustyn (Spencerport, NY/Churchville-Chili)# dished out three assists for the Tigers who outshot the Saxons 40-18.
The first half was close. RIT jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead on goals from Lampson and #
Ashleigh Caruso (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool)#.
The Saxons answered back on a goal by Ashley White, but Vakiener scored on an assist from Lampson to push the Tigers lead back to two goals.
Elyse Caldwell scored at the 19:54 mark to cut the lead back down one goal at 3-2.
Later in the half, York and Henriksen scored consecutive goals to give the Tigers a 6-3 lead.
Alfred responded with three staright goals, tying the score at 6-6 on a goal by Cladwell with 2:11 remaining in the half.
Vakiener and Azlein increased the TIgers lead back to two goals late in the half, before Tracie McGinnity scored with :45 seconds remaining to pull the Saxons to within one at 8-7.
The second half belonged to the Tigers who scored 11 times, while holding Alfred to no goals and just eight shots.
Vakiener scored three of her six goals in the second half, along with Lampson who scored three. Henriksen, #
Tina Podrasky (Scranton, PA/Wyoming Seminary) and York also scored for the Tigers. (Westwood, MA/Westwood)Katelyn Crane (Palmyra, NY/Palmyra-Macedon)# picked up the win for the Tigers allowing seven goals.
Michelle Adams, Tracie McGinnity and Ashley White each had a pair of goals for Alfred, who fall to 1-6 on the season. Elyse Caldwell had a goals and three assists. Kate Baughmann took the loss for Alfred making nine saves.
The win pulls the Tigers to 3-2 in the conference and 4-7 overall. RIT will face St. John Fisher College on Wednesday, April 13 at 4 pm on the campus of St. John Fisher.
