ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT men's hockey team travels west on Interstate-90 to face the Mercyhurst Lakers on Friday, Oct. 28 for an early season Atlantic Hockey Association tussle. The contest will be played at the Mercyhurst Ice Center and get underway at 7:05 p.m.
RIT (1-2-1, 0-1-1 AHA) enters Friday's contest looking to snap a two-game losing streak and pick up its first AHA win of the season. Last weekend, the Tigers suffered a pair of losses, falling to Canisius, 3-1 on Thursday, while going down against No. 12 Union, 5-0.
Nolan Descoteaux (Dallas, TX/South Shore Kings) scored RIT's lone goal of the weekend.
Cameron Burt (Detroit, MI/) leads the team in scoring with five points (2-3-5) in four games.
Mercyhurst (0-4-0, 0-0-0 AHA) will look to pick up its first win of the season on Friday. The Lakers were off last weekend, but dropped a pair of games at the Brice Alaska Gold Rush the weekend before, losing to Alaska and Alaska-Fairbanks. Mercyhurst has been outscored 18-6 this season. Derek Elliot, Grant Blakely, and Daniel Bahntge lead the team in scoring with two points each. In net, Max Strang has a 4.27 goals against average and .890 save percentage.
RIT is 27-13-5 all-time against the Lakers. RIT went 2-0-1 against Mercyhurst last season, winning a pair of 4-2 contests at Mercyhurst, then skating to a 3-3 draw at RIT. The Tigers are 11-4-2 against Mercyhurst since moving to Division I in 2005 and have an eight-game unbeaten streak at the Mercyhurst Ice Center (7-0-1). The Lakers last beat RIT at home on Feb. 5, 2006, RIT's first season at the Division I level.
