ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT women's soccer team will host St. Lawrence University in a crucial Liberty League game on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 3 pm on RIT Field. The Tigers, 7-7-0 overall and 5-3-0 in the Liberty League, are tied for second place in the conference standings with Skidmore with 12 points. St. Lawrence (6-4-3, 3-1-2) sits in third place in the standings with 11 points. A win by the Tigers on Saturday would virtually guarantee a spot in the upcoming Liberty League Tournament.
RIT comes into Saturday's game having won three straight games including a sweep last weekend of Vassar and Bard. Sophomore
Rachael Bromson (Suffield, CT/Suffield) scored a pair of goals on Friday to help pace the Tigers to a 3-1 win over Vassar. Bromson and freshman
SIerra Kiss (Sauquoit, NY/Sauquoit) each scored on Saturday as the Tigers got by Bard 2-1 in overtime. Kiss' goal in the 99th minute proved to be the game winner.
The Tigers come into Saturday tied for sixth in the Liberty League in scoring averaging 1.36 goals per game. The Tigers are led by Bromson who has 22 points on nine goals and four assists. This week's Liberty League Offensive Performer of the Week leads or is near the top in just about every offensive category. She leads the league in points per game (1.57), goals per game (0.64) and is tied for first in goals (9). Bromson is second in points (22) and tied for fourth in the conference in assists (4).
Kiss and senior
Ashlene Potter (Rotterdam, NY/Schalmont) each have two goals on the season, while
Jackie Jacobson (Westlake, CA/Westlake) and Jaime Lewandowski each have three assists. In all, ten different Tigers have scored goals on the season.
St. Lawrence is fifth in the Liberty League allowing 0.72 goals per game. The Saints have allowed one goal in their last three games, that coming Tuesday at SUNY Oswego. Abby van Geldern has played the majority of the minutes in net for the Saints and is fifth in the Liberty League with a 0.73 goals against average. She leads the conference in saves (80) and saves per game (6.15), and is tied for second in shutouts (6).
Defensively, RIT is sixth in the Liberty League allowing 1.20 goals per game. Since Sept. 26 the Tigers are 5-2-0 and have outscored their opponents 11-4 in that stretch. Senior
Ashley Valenti (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) has played the majority of the minutes in net posting a 1.17 goals against average and two shut outs.
The Saints are third in the conference in scoring averaging 1.69 goals per game. St. Lawrence has outscored their opponents 22-10 on the season. Stephanie Sayward leads St. Lawrence in scoring with 18 points on seven goals and four assists. She is fourth in the conference in points (18), points per game (1.38 and tied for third in goals (7) and goals per game (0.54).
RIT is 2-14-2 all-time versus St. Lawrence. The Saints defeated RIT 1-0 last season in Canton. Stepahnie Sayward scored the game-winner in the 88th minute. RIT's last win came back in 1995.
