WORCESTER, MA -- Four different Tigers scored and goaltender Shane Madolora (Salinas, CA/) picked up his second shut out of the season as the RIT (13-8-4, 12-3-3 AHA) men's hockey team defeated Holy Cross (7-14-2, 6-8-2) 4-0 in Atlantic Hockey Association action on Friday.

RIT now has a seven-game unbeaten streak at the Hart Center and are 16-1-1 versus the Crusaders since 2006-07. With the win RIT is now unbeaten in nine straight conference games going 7-0-2 during that stretch.

The Tigers penalty killing unit was perfect again on Friday, killing off all five Holy Cross power plays, and have killed off 31 straight penalties dating back five games.

“I thought our penalty killing unit was the difference tonight,” said RIT Head Coach Wayne Wilson. “We were disciplined and steady against a very good power play team.”

RIT took an early first-period lead on Tyler Brenner (Linwood, Ontario/)'s 18th goal of the season. Freshman Ben Lynch (Blaine, MN/Lincoln Stars) started the play at center ice springing Brenner and Andrew Favot (King City, Ontario/) in on a two-on-one break. Favot fed Brenner with a perfect pass that he one-timed into an open net. It was Favot's 21st assist of the season.

Freshman Michael Colavecchia made it 2-0 with an even strength goal at the 12:58 mark of the first period. Junior defenseman Chris Haltigin (Oakville, Ontario/) fired a wrist shot from the left point. Holy Cross goalie Adam Roy made the save but left the rebound right in front. Colavecchia gathered the rebound and scored with a hard wrist shot for his fifth tally of the season.

Adam Mitchell (Crofton, MD/Baystate Breakers) made it 3-0 RIT at 10:27 of the second with a power play goal off an assist from Chris Saracino (St. Louis, MO/Green Bay Gamblers). At the end of a Tigers power play, Saracino fired a shot that ricocheted off skates in front of the Holy Cross net. Mitchell hustled to the loose puck and fired a shot into the open net for his ninth goal of the season.

Freshman Ben Lynch (Blaine, MN/Lincoln Stars) picked up his second assist of the game and 14th of the season on the play.

Each team killed off a 5-on-3 power play by the other in the second period. For RIT, they are now 1-for-18 with the 5-on-3 advantage this season. The Tigers killed off 47 seconds worth of 5-on-3 by the Crusaders .

Mike Janda (Glen Ellyn, IL/) scored a power play goal with 3:31 remaining in the third period to wrap up the game for the Tigers. Cameron Burt (Detroit, MI/) spotted Janda wide open in the slot and fed him with a perfect pass. Janda one-timed a shot into the net for his eighth goal of the season. Favot added the second assist on the play and finished with two helpers on the night.

With the assist, Burt now has 99 career points and is just one away from becoming the fourth Tiger in the Division I era to surpass the 100-point plateau.

Madolora picked up his 11th win of the season, making 22 saves and remains unbeaten on the year with an 11-0-3 record. He now has a .938 save percentage overall, and in AHA play, is 11-0-2 with a 1.59 goals against average and .947 save percentage.

RIT finished with 35 shots on goal and went 2-for-6 with the man advantage. The Tigers held Holy Cross to just 22 shots on goal and held them to no goals in five power play attempts.

These same two teams will face off once again on Saturday night at 7:05 at the Hart Center on the campus of Holy Cross.
