Women's basketball cannot get past Utica

ROCHESTER, NY -
The RIT women's basketball team fell to 1-4 in Empire 8 play and 3-11 overall after falling to the visiting Utica College Pioneers (7-7, 3-2 Empire 8), 87-50 at Clark Gym on Friday evening.

The Pioneers took a 50-30 lead into the locker room at the half. The first three minutes of play were dominated by the Pioneers, as Utica jumped out to an 11-point lead and maintained a double-digit advantage throughout the remainder of the period.

The second half fared no better for the Tigers, as the Pioneers made it a 30-point game with just under 10 minutes left to play.

#Courtney Tennant (Cortland, NY/Cortland) and Kayla Wheeler (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa)# each recorded a team-best 14 points for the Tigers, while #Leslie Havens (Wayland, NY/Wayland-Cohocton)# added 13 points. Tennant also chipped in with nine rebounds.

Utica was led by a 27-point performance from Jessica Berry.

The Tigers, now 3-11 overall, travel to take on Elmira College tomorrow at 2 p.m.
