ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (2-0-0) women's soccer team defeated Keene State (2-1-0) to win the 2010 Rachel Miller MemorialTournament. The Tigers scored four second-half goals to win the title.  Senior defender Sarah Frisicano (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) was named the Most Valuable Player, while Shelby Vakiener (Fairport, NY/Fairport), Chelsea Shoemaker (Rochester, NY/Aquinas) and Shireen Irani (Calgary, Alberta/National Sports Academy) were All-Tournament team selections for the Tigers.

"We learned a little about our team character with two come-from-behind wins," said Head Coach Liz Masterson. "Our physical preparation in the pre-season was a big factor in our success this weekend."

Keene State took a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute on a goal by Jessica Berthiaume. Katie Bradford had the assist on the play for the Owls.

Monica Cook (Webster, NY/Webster Schroder) tied the score at 1-1 in the 47th minute on an assist from  Vakiener. It was Cook's first goal of the season.

Senior Danielle Painter (Mililani, HI/Mililani) scored on a rebound in the 60th minute to give the Tigers their first lead of the game Kasey Dobrodziej (Utica, NY/Thomas R. Proctor) had the assist on the game-winning goal.

Katlyn Gregg (Williamson, NY/Williamson) and freshman Alexa Martinez (Holmdel, NJ/Holmdel) put the game away with goals in the 70th and 74th minutes respectively. Junior Terra Towne (Chaumont, NY/Lyme) had the assists on both goals.

Junior Ashley Valenti (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) picked up the win for RIT allowing one goal and making five saves.  It is RIT's first 2-0 start and Miller Memorial Tournament Championship since 2003.

RIT returns to action Wednesday, September 8 with a non-conference contest at Buffalo State.  The game begins at 4 p.m.
