ROCHESTER, NY – Shelby Vakiener (Fairport, NY/Fairport) scored her first collegiate goal with 4:21 left in the first overtime, lifting RIT to a 2-1 win over John Carroll in the opening round of the 2010 Rachel Miller Memorial Tournament on Saturday morning at RIT Field. It was RIT's first win in the tournament since the 2007 season.
Sophomore
Chelsea Shoemaker (Rochester, NY/Aquinas) carried the ball into the John Carroll zone and lofted a pass to senior
Shireen Irani (Calgary, Alberta/National Sports Academy) on the left side. Irani found Vakiener streaking to the goal, and the sophomore headed the pass past John Carroll goalkeeper Molly Gradowski for the golden goal.

Liz Masterson picked up her first win at the helm of the Tigers.
RIT out-shot John Carroll 17-7 overall, and had four corner kicks to zero for John Carroll. Gardowski stopped nine shots for the Blue Streaks, while junior
Ashley Valenti (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) made four saves for the Tigers.
John Carroll opened the scoring in the 62nd minute, as Genny Goergen redirected a feed from Rachel Grdina from in close past a diving Valenti.
The Tigers answered right back in the 67th minute. Kasey Dobrodzjei scored her first collegiate goal, converting a rebound off a shot from Shoemaker, tying the game at 1.
Shoemaker dished out two assists, giving her seven for her career at RIT.
RIT outshot John Carroll 5-0 in a first half dominated by the defenses. Kaitlyn Gregg had RIT's best chance of the half with two minutes left, heading a shot that was stopped by Gradowski.
SUNY Cortland and Keene State played to a scoreless draw in the second Rachel Miller Tournament game on Saturday, but Keene State advanced on penalty kicks, 4-2.
The Tigers will play Keene State at 11:30 Sunday morning in the Rachel Miller Championship game. John Carroll will play SUNY Cortland at 9 a.m. Sunday in the consolation.
