Men's soccer loses to Elmira on late goal

ELMIRA, NY -- The RIT men's soccer team was defeated by Elmira College (3-2-2) 1-0 in Empire 8 action on Saturday morning. The Soaring Eagles scored the game-winner in the 89th minute on a one-timer by Scott Leone. The loss drops RIT to 5-3-1 overall and 0-1-0 in the Empire 8.

The Tigers outshot Elmira 20-16, including 10 on goal for the Tigers. Senior captain Bret Dietz (Harrisburg, PA/Bishop McDevitt) had two shots on goal and hit the cross-bar early in the second half that would have givien RIT the lead.

Scott Leone gave the Soaring Eagles a lead int he 89th minute. He one-touched a shot into the goal off a corss from Ernesto Valverde.

RIT's Sean Conway (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) took the loss for RIT allowing one goal and maing four saves. Jared Micheller picked up the win for Elmira making 10 saves.

The Tigers return to action on Tuesday, September 28 when they host 12th ranked University of Rochester. Kick-off is at 4 pm on RIT Field.
