Volleyball finishes 1-1 at RIT Invitational on Friday

ROCHESTER, NY -
The RIT volleyball team (6-4) finished 1-1 at the 22nd Annual RIT Invitational on Friday afternoon at Clark Gym.  In the opening match, RIT rallied from a 2-1 deficit to win the final two sets and defeat SUNY Geneseo (4-7) in five sets.  The Tigers fell to NYU (10-2) in four sets in the nightcap.

In RIT's first match, they won set one, 25-17, while Geneseo won the next two, 25-15 and 25-18.  RIT took set four 25-18, then found themselves down 5-2 in the final set.  After a RIT sideout, ophomore Christina Worth (Valencia, CA/Valencia) was on serve for four straight points, as RIT went up 7-5, and was able to hang on from there.

Freshmam #Kyra Wilson-Houck led RIT offensively with 15 kills.  Jessica Schaffer (Wellington, OH/Keystone) added 13 kills and 12 digs.  Rebecca Moore (San Diego, CA/Rancho Bernardo) chipped in with 10 kills, while hitting .409, and leading the squad with four blocks.  Worth dished out 41 assists, to go along with 17 digs, and four service aces.  Cat Sullivan (Lehman, PA/Lake-Lehman) also had four blocks.

Krista Fieling led Geneseo with 20 kills, while Laura Galvin had 21 digs and Noelle Morrison recorded 45 assists.

NYU won the first two sets by identical 25-18 scores.  RIT rebounded to win set three, 25-22, and held a 19-16 lead in the fourth set, before NYU scored the next five points, and nine of the final 10 points to win the match.

Schaffer led the Tigers with 14 kills, while Megan Henriksen (Silver Spring, MD/Our Lady of Good Counsel) led RIT with 12 digs.  Worth dished out 27 assists, to go along with eight digs, and two service aces. 

Kendyl Dunn led NYU with 20 kills.  Mina Baban dished out 45 assists.

On Saturday, RIT will host St. John Fisher at 10 a.m. and then play at either at 3 or 5 p.m.
