ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT baseball team (10-9) dropped a pair of games to SUNY Oneonta (15-5) on Saturday afternoon at RIT Field. RIT lost game one, 5-4 and fell to the Red Dragons in game two, 15-5.
Oneonta scored three runs in the top of the second inning and never trailed afterwards, en route to the win. Steve Gauck was 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored for the Red Dragons. Michael Center earned the win on the mound, throwing 6 2/3 innings, allowing eight hits and four runs, before Joshua Herzenberg got the final out for the save.
Kyle Desrosiers (North Attleboro, MA/Xaverian Brothers) was 2-for-3 for the Tigers. Six players had one hit apiece. RIT stole five bases, two coming from
Geoff Dornes (Landsville, PA/Hempfield). Dornes also took the loss on the mound, throwing a complete-game 10-hitter, striking out a career-best nine hitters.
RIT had the tying run on second and winning run on first with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, but could not get the runs across.
In game two, Gauck was 3-for-4 with two triples, a double, four RBI, and three runs scored. The Red Dragons scored seven times in the top of the fifth inning to break open a close game.
Kreag Bradley (Victor, NY/Victor) was 2-for-4 with a run batted in, while Dornes was 2-for-4 with a run scored for the Tigers.
RIT is right back in action on Sunday, as they travel to play a doubleheader at Cazenovia. The twin-bill gets underway at 1 p.m.
