ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT women's lacrosse team improved to 3-1 on the season with a 20-13 win over the University of Rochester on Saturday afternoon. Freshman #
Shelby Vakiener (Fairport, NY/Fairport) led RIT with four goals and freshman goaltender (Palmyra, NY/Palmyra-Macedon)Katelyn Crane (Palmyra, NY/Palmyra-Macedon)# picked up the win making nine saves in net.

Danielle Previ (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) each had three goals and an assist for the Tigers who out shot the Yellowjackets 36-28. (Palmyra, NY/Palmyra-Macedon)Allyson Pisher (Holley, NY/Holley) had two goals and an assist and (Palmyra, NY/Palmyra-Macedon)Ashley Pezze (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland) added a pair of tallies. (Palmyra, NY/Palmyra-Macedon)Loren Azlein (Cleveland, OH/Gilmour Academy)# had a goal and an assist.
Amanda Case paced Rochester with five goals. She was 4-for-4 on free position attempts. Andrea DeFilippo and Liza Maizel each had three goals for the Yellowjackets.
Rochester won the ground ball battle 25-15. The Tigers won 19 draw controls and were 14-of-18 on clearing attempts. The Yellowjackets were 9-of-15 on free position attempts and RIT went 4-for-7.
The Tigers jumped out to a 4-0 lead early in the first half, but Rochester stormed back scoring three straight free position goals. With RIT leading 10-4 with 10:29 to play in the half, Rochester rattled off four straight goals to end the half, pulling to within 10-8 at halftime.
RIT clamped down defensively in the second half, allowing five Yellowjackets goals. The Tigers offense kept on rolling, scoring 10 times in the second half. Vakiener, Previ and Pisher each had two goals in the second half for RIT.
RIT returns to action on Tuesday, March 23 with a road game at SUNY Fredonia. Game time is at 4 pm in Fredonia, New York.
