ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT baseball team improved to 4-5 on the season after sweeping Keuka (0-2) by scores of 7-1 and 5-4 at Field of Dreams Park in Webster on a sunny and unseasonably warm Friday afternoon. RIT came from four runs down to win game two.
Senior pitcher
Geoff Dornes (Landsville, PA/Hempfield) held the Storm at bay in the first game, allowing just one run on four hits over six innings. He struck out seven batters. Sophomore
Brad Wright (Baldswinville, NY/C.W. Baker) pitched the seventh inning and tied a school record by striking out four batters. One of the batters he struck out reached on a wild pitch.
The Tigers broke the game open with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 5-0 lead.
Chris Brol (Ijamsville, MD/Urbana) continued his hot hitting, going 3-for-4 with two RBI.
Ryan Campbell (Brockport, NY/Brockport) was 2-for-4 with a RBI.
Justin Smith (Livonia, NY/Livonia) stole two bases, while
Kyle Desrosiers (North Attleboro, MA/Xaverian Brothers) scored a pair of runs.
In game two,
Ed Hughes (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) broke a 4-4 tie in the bottom of the seventh inning with a walk-off single, scoring Dornes, who led off with a walk.
RIT rallied from a 4-0 deficit with a pair of runs in the third and fifth innings to tie the game.
Dave Kernan (North Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) was 3-for-4 with a run scoring double in the third inning and two run single in the fifth inning.
Kreag Bradley (Victor, NY/Victor) was 2-for-3 with a run scored and run batted in.
Ben Robertson (Mecklenburg, NY/Trumansburg) stole a pair of bases.
Mike Marsillo (Scottsdale, AZ/Desert Mountain) earned the win on the mound for RIT, throwing two innings of scoreless relief, striking out four batters.
Cory Langtry (Moravia, NY/Moravia) started for RIT, allowing four runs on seven hits over five innings. He struck out six Storm batters.
The Tigers return to action on Sunday, March 28, as they play Hilbert, once again in Webster at 1 p.m.
