No. 3 women's hockey set to host nation's top-ranked team this holiday weekend

Tigers play two games against two-time defending champion Amherst

ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT women's hockey team (8-0-0, 6-0-0), ranked third in the most recent USCHO.com poll, hosts the two-time defending national champion, No. 1 Amherst (2-0-0, 2-0-0 NESCAC) in a pair of non-conference contests at Ritter Arena this weekend.  RIT and Amherst face off on Saturday, Nov. 27 at 2 p.m., and Sunday., Nov. 28 at 1 p.m.

The Tigers come into the weekend series having won eight straight to open the season, outscoring its opponents, 51-7.  Last weekend, the Tigers swept SUNY Potsdam, 8-3, and 10-0.  RIT has 10 players averaging at least a point per game. Senior Katie Stack leads the nation with four power-play goals. Sophomore Tenecia Hiller is tied for the national lead with 16 points. Freshman Kourtney Kunichika leads the nation with 11 assists. Sophomore #Kim Schlattman (Stratford, Ontario/Cambridge Fury)# is first nationally with three game-winning goals.

Freshman goaltender #Laura Chamberlain (Norco, CA/LA Selects)# picked up the win on Saturday, and is now 6-0-0 with a 0.67 goals against average and .956 save percentage this season. She is in the top-10 nationally in both categories and leads the nation in wins.

RIT's power-play is humming along at 32.7 percent this season, third nationally, with 17 tallies in eight contests. RIT is second nationally, averaging 6.38 goals per game. They are fourth in goals against, allowing just 0.88 goals per contest. RIT leads the nation with three shorthanded goals.

Amherst opened its season last weekend, with resounding 7-0 and 5-0 wins over Wesleyan, allowing just 12 total shots in the two wins.  The Lord Jeffs return their top three scorers and both goaltenders from last season's national championship squad that finished 23-2-4 and allowed just 34 goals in 29 games.  Sophomore Geneva Lloyd leads the team in scoring with four points in two games this season. 

The Lord Jeffs have four straight 20-win seasons, and are 89-18-11 since the start of the 2006-07 season.

The Tigers are 7-2-1 all-time against the Lord Jeffs. The two teams last met on Feb. 7, 2009, at Ritter Arena, with RIT winning 4-1. Current Tigers #Megan Kobar (Calgary, Alberta)#, #Traci Galbraith (Oakville, Ontario/Burlington Jr. Barracudas)#, and Stack scored in the win. Amherst defeated RIT in the Tigers lone NCAA appearance in 2007.
