ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT men's soccer team scored twice in the first half en route to a 2-1 win over Alfred University (4-8-2, 0-5-0 E8) on Senior Day at RIT Field on Saturday. The win is the third in a row for the Tigers and improves their record to 8-4-3 overall and 2-1-2 in the Empire 8.
Senior
Bret Dietz (Harrisburg, PA/Bishop McDevitt) gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute. He scored off a free kick from 25 yards out bending the ball around the Alfred wall, passed a diving Saxons keeper and into the bottom right corner.
Dom Colaprete (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport), who had a shot sail over the cross-bar minutes before, gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead in the 26th minute. Alfred keeper Eliot Thorpe misplayed a clearing attempt, Colaprete gathered the loose ball and fired a shot into the net for his fourth goal of the season.
Alfred pulled to within a goal in the 54th minute off a penalty kick. The Saxons' Jeff Thomas was pulled down by a RIT defender inside the RIT penalty area. Tony Gai converted the penlty kick to pull the Saxons within a goal. It was the first goal scored by Alfred in five Empire 8 contests this season.
RIT had another chance in the 62nd minute but
Todd Gaulocher (Old Greenwich, CT/Greenwich)'s one-timer drifted wide of the net.
Sean Conway (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) picked up his eighth win of the season allowing one goal and making a save.
RIT out shot Alfred 9-7 and took seven corner kicks to four for the Saxons. Eliot Thorpe took the loss for Alfred allowing two goals and making two saves.
RIT returns to action on Saturday, October 23 at 1 pm at Ithaca College.
