GENEVA, NY – The RIT women's swimming and diving team defeated William Smith College 139-97 on Wednesday at Bristol Pool in Geneva, N.Y. The win improves the Tigers to 5-6 overall, while the Herons fall to 4-2. Eight different Tigers garnered first-place finishes in the victory.
Caitlyn Burr (Delhi, NY/Delaware Academy) and
Cat Jones (Eden, NY/Eden) both secured dual victories.
Burr was victorious in the 200- and 500-meter freestyle, finishing with times of 1:58.62 and 5:15.92, respectively. She crushed the field in the 500, finishing 18 seconds before second place. Burr also teamed up to finish first in the 200-yard medley relay with
Jenna Hoffman (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena),
Kerzia Hopson (Norwich, NY/Norwich), and
Rachel Redfearn (Marshfield, MA/Sacred Heart).
Jones took two first-place finishes in the 1- and 3-meter diving events. She scored 205.35 in the 1-meter and 214.10 in the 3-meter.
Jen Smith (Bangor, ME/Bangor) finished right behind Jones to take second in both events.
Nicole Mallory (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) won the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:36.88, while
Rachel Lorenz (Norwich, NY/Norwich) took first in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:21.74.
Hoffman was victorious in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:04.41. Mellissa Harrision won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 57.45, and
Brittany Schlunt (Santa Cruz, CA/Harbor) took the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:05.90.
The Tigers are back in action on February 6, when they host Nazareth at Judson Pool. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m.
