Burt and Brenner each score two goals for the Tigers

WEST SPRINGFIELD, MA – Juniors Cameron Burt (Detroit, MI/) and Tyler Brenner (Linwood, Ontario/) each had a pair of goals as the RIT men's hockey team defeated American International College (3-17-2, 3-13-2 AHA) 5-3 in Atlantic Hockey Association action on Friday night. Dan Ringwald (Oakville, Ontario/) and Andrew Favot (King City, Ontario/) each had three assists as the Tigers improve to 13-9-1 overall and 13-3-1 in the AHA.

RIT came into tonight not having lost to AIC since the 2007-08 season, and were 12-2-1 all time versus the Yellowjackets.

RIT struck for three goals in the first period, two coming off the stick of Burt and the other by Brenner. Favot and Ringwald each had two of their three assists in the first period.

Burt's first came just at the end of a RIT power play on a one-timer off a pass from Chris Tanev (Toronto, Ontario/). Andrew Favot (King City, Ontario/) started the play with a pass from the half-boards up to Tanev at the point. He flung a pass down to a wide open Burt at the side of the net who one-timed it in for his eighth of the season.

His next came on a blast from the point on the power play. Dan Ringwald (Oakville, Ontario/) sent a pass up to Burt at the point and he blasted a slap shot for his second of the game and team leading ninth of the season.

Brenner scored on an attempted centering pass at 15:54 of the first. His centering pass from the AIC red-line was re-directed by a Yellowjackets defender into the net for a 3-0 RIT lead. Alan Mazur (Burnaby, British Columbia/) and Ringwald had the assists.

AIC finally got on the board early in the second period, breaking an impressive scoreless string by goaltender Jared DeMichiel (Avon, CT/). Adam Pleskach's goal at 3:30 of the second broke a string of 197:44 of scoreless hockey for DeMichiel dating back to January 8 versus Holy Cross.

Brenner gave the Tigers a three-goal lead with his second of the game at 10:11 of the second on a nice wrap-around play. Tyler Mazzei (Kelowna, British Columbia/) and Ringwald had the assists on the play.

Matic rounded out the scoring in the second period with a well-placed wrist shot off a rush by the Tigers. Ringwald and Mazzei also had the assists on that play.

The Yellowjackets added two power play goals in the third period to make the final 5-3.

RIT nearly doubled AIC in shots 44-26. The Tigers went 1-for-7 on the power play and allowed two AIC extra-man tallies in six attempts.

Cameron Burt (Detroit, MI/) and Tyler Brenner (Linwood, Ontario/) led RIT with a pair of goals each. Andrew Favot (King City, Ontario/) and Dan RIngwald each had three assists for the Tigers and Mazzei had a pair of helpers.

RIT will go for the sweep on Saturday night when they face American International College at 7:05 pm at the Olympia Ice Center in West Springfield, Massachusetts.
