STORRS, CT – The RIT men's hockey team had their 13-game Atlantic Hockey Association unbeaten streak snapped with a 2-1 loss at Connecticut on Saturday evening. The loss drops RIT to 12-9-1 overall and 12-3-1 in the AHA.

The Tigers beat UCONN last night 4-0 extending their unbeaten streak to 13 (12-0-1) games, while also extending their scoreless streak to 134:14.

RIT out-shot the Huskies 31-29 and went 1-for-7 with the man advantage. The Tigers held UCONN scoreless in seven power play attempts. Shane Madalora took the loss for RIT, allowing two goals and making 27 saves.

Connecticut struck for the only goal of the first period, an even-strength goal at 4:17 of the first period. Tom Janosz scored on a one-timer to give the Huskies their first lead of the weekend. The goal snapped a scoreless streak of 138:31 by the Tigers dating back to January 8 versus Holy Cross.

UCONN took a 2-0 lead at 10:36 of the second period. Josh Bernard scored an even strength goal, beating RIT goaltender Shane Madalora with a back-handed shot over his shoulder.

RIT fired 18 shots in the second period, putting a lot of pressure on the Huskies defense. Garrett Bartus stood tall for UCONN stopping all 18 shots he faced, including seven from point blank range.

Chris Haltigin (Oakville, Ontario/) kept it a two-goal game when he made a save off the line. Madalora went way out of his net to play the puck, but he played it right to Andrew Olson of UCONN. He ripped a slap shot with Madalora out of his cage, but Haltigin was Johnny-on-the-spot, making the save with his shin guards.

The Tigers pulled to within goal on a power play goal by Alan Mazur (Burnaby, British Columbia/) at 10:51 of the third period. He fired a slap shot that was blocked out front. The puck went to Tyler Mazzei (Kelowna, British Columbia/) who fed it back to Mazur. This time his one-timer was on target, into the lower left corner for his seventh tally of the season.

Chris Tanev (Toronto, Ontario/) had a short-handed chance late in the contest, but his slap shot blasted off the cross bar. The Tigers had a flourish inside the final than two minutes when UCONN took a penalty. The Tigers fired five shots with the extra skater but could not score the equalizer.

RIT will face American International College next Friday and Saturday, January 22 and 23 at 7:05 pm in Springfield Massachusetts.
