PITTSFORD, NY – The RIT men's soccer team played to a 1-1 tie versus SUNY Brockport on Sunday afternoon in the Doug May Classic at Nazareth College. The tie evens RIT's record to 1-1-1 on the season.
RIT was out shot by Brockport 22-18. RIT took two corner kicks to Brockport's seven and RIT had 16 fouls to Brockport's seven.
Bora Turgut (Rochester, NY/Aquinas) got the start in net for the Tigers, allowing one goal and making six saves.
Brockport controlled the bulk of the play in the opening moments of the first half, firing five shots on net. RIT stemmed the run by the Golden Eagles and began generating scoring chances later in the half.
The Tigers had a great chance with 22 minutes remaining in the half off a set piece just outside the Brockport penalty area. Junior captain
Bret Dietz (Harrisburg, PA/Bishop McDevitt) sent a service into the penalty area, but the service was a bit too hard and RIT never got a shot off.
With 19:30 remaining until halftime, Dietz ripped a shot from the top of the 18-yeard box that Brockport's Joe Marino saved. The rebound came to freshman
Matt Broedel (Hamilton, NY/Hamilton), but his one-timer went wide of the net.
RIT broke through with three minutes remaining in the first half on a goal by
Bobby Bullard (Bergen, NY/Byron-Bergen). He ran onto a ball served in by
Jon Rudolph (Doylestown, PA/William Penn) and, while avoiding the offside call, tipped it past Marino and into the net for his first goal of the season and a 1-0 Tigers lead.
Brockport scored the game-tying goal with 6:30 to play on a goal by Steve Abgarian. He scored off a rebound on a shot by Robert Rua.
Both teams had chances in the two overtime sessions but were unable to put home the game-winner.
RIT will be back in action on Tuesday, September 9 at Hamilton College.  Game-time is 4 p.m.
