Women's soccer falls to No. 9 Ithaca

ITHACA, NY -- The RIT women's soccer team was shut out by #9 Ithaca College (3-1-0, 1-0-0 E8), 2-0 in the Empire 8 opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon. The loss drops the Tigers to 0-2-2 overall and 0-1-0 in the Empire 8.

Lauren Koppel gave Ithaca a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute. She scored on a header off a corner from Emily Mogk.

The Bombers took a 2-0 lead in the 38th minute on a long shot from Julie Winn. She scored with a blast from outside the RIT penalty area.

Ithaca out shot RIT 26-4 on the afternoon and held an 11-0 advantage in corner kicks. Despite taking the loss, RIT goalkeeper Ashley Valenti (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) played well, making 10 saves.

RIT returns to action on Wednesday, September 16 at St. John Fisher College. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. on the campus of St. John Fisher.
