Tigers Improve to 4-0 in Empire 8

ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT women's lacrosse team defeated Utica College 9-7 in Empire 8 action on Friday afternoon. The win improves the Tigers to 8-3 overall and 4-0 in the Empire 8, their best start in the program's history.

RIT out shot Utica 28-25 but lost the ground ball battle, 29-23. The Pioners won 11 draw controls to RIT's six  and RIT went 2-for-8 on free position attempts while Utica was 1-for-9.

#Eileen Hennigan (Liverpool, NY/Christian Brothers Academy)# (Liverpool, NY/CBA) led RIT with three goals. #Nadia Pasicznyk (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia)# (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) had two goals and an assist and #Megan Henriksen (Silver Spring, MD/Our Lady of Good Counsel)# (Silver Spring, MD/Our Lady of Good Counsel) had a pair of assists. #Danielle Previ (Medford, NJ/Shawnee)# (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) had a goal adn an assist.

#Jerica Young (Jay, NY/Northwood School)# (Jay, NY/Northwood School) had five ground balls and two caused turnovers. #Sarah Frisicano (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia)# (Rochester, NY/Greece Arcadia) had four caused turnovers. #Kelsey Evans (Carlisle, PA/Cumberland Valley)# (Carlisle, PA/Cumberland Valley) picked up the win, making 10 saves and llowing seven goals.

The Pioneers took a 1-0 lead 16 seconds into the contest on an unassisted goal by Tammy Kohanski.

Eileen Hennigan (Liverpool, NY/Christian Brothers Academy) tied it at one with her first goal of the afternoon 3:31 into the first half on an assist from Previ. Pasicznyk made it 2-0 at 9:42 of the half and Hennigan struck again at 14:40 giving the Tigers a 3-1 lead.

After another Kohanski goal made it 4-2 Hennigan closed out the first half scoring with six seconds remaining on Henriksen's second assist of the game.

The Pioneers scored the first four goals of the second half, tying the score at 5-5 on a goal by Lily Fleskes at 15:28.

Danielle Previ (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) broke the Pioneer's scoring run with 12:20 remaining in the second half with her lone goal of the afternoon on an assist from Pasicznyk.

Kohanski scored her third goal of the game with 11:20 remaining, tying the score once again at six.

Pasicznyk and Pezze scored two straight goals for RIT, giving the Tigers an 8-6 lead with 5:39 to play.

Lily Fleskes pulled the Pioneers to within a goal with three minutes to play but Allie Coppola (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) tallied a free position goal with 32 seconds to play to put the game away for the Tigers.

RIT will look to win their fifth straight game on tomorrow afternoon when they host Hartwick College at 3 pm on RIT Field.
