ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT women's lacrosse opened Empire 8 play with a dominating, 14-4 win over Alfred University on Wednesday afternoon at the RIT Turf Field. RIT improved to 5-3 in 2009 and 1-0 in conference play. Alfred suffered its first loss of the season, dropping to 3-1.
Strong defense was the key for RIT, as they forced 36 Alfred turnovers. Sophomore defender
#Sarah Frisicano (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia)# (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) set a career high by causing five Alfred turnovers. She also grabbed four ground balls. #
Jerica Young (Jay, NY/Northwood School)# (Jay, NY/Northwood School) caused three Alfred turnovers and tallied a goal.
RIT jumped out to a 6-1 lead at halftime, as they scored the first four goals of the contest. The Tigers held an 18-7 shot advantage after 30 minutes of play, while causing 19 Alfred turnovers. The Tigers out-shot Alfred 33-22 in the contest and had 43 ground balls to Alfred's 33.
#Danielle Previ (Medford, NJ/Shawnee)# (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) and Young scored goals in the first 3:12 to put RIT up 2-0. From there, the Tigers coasted to the win. Previ, RIT's leading scorer, tallied twice and added an assist on the afternoon.
Alfred cut the lead to four at 6-2 and 7-3 early in the second half, but RIT responded by scoring four straight and seven out of the last eight goals to put the game away.
#Eileen Hennigan (Liverpool, NY/Christian Brothers Academy)# (Liverpool, NY/Christian Brothers Academy) led RIT with three goals. She now needs just one more point to become the seventh player in the history of the RIT lacrosse program to record 100 for her career.

Senior goalkeeper
#Kelsey Evans (Carlisle, PA/Cumberland Valley)# (Carlisle, PA/Cumberland Valley) played well in net, stopping 11 shots.
Pezze led RIT with eight ground balls, while Lampson recorded five. Lampson also had two draw controls.
The one goal allowed in the first half tied RIT's season-low, set in the season opener against Virginia Wesleyan. RIT allowed three goals total in that win.
Lisa Button caused eight turnovers and scored a goal for Alfred, who lost for the first time this season. Michelle Adams led the way with four draw controls, while Button and Hannah Scott each had six ground balls. Emily Tobin, Abbey Schaffnit and Adams also scored for Alfred.
RIT is now 4-5 all-time against the Saxons.
The Tigers return to action on Saturday, as they travel to Empire 8 foe Nazareth to face the Golden Flyers at 1 p.m.
