Women's lacrosse falls at home to SUNY Geneseo

ROCHESTER, NY -
The RIT women's lacrosse team (3-2) dropped its second straight home contest, 19-10 to SUNY Geneseo (2-1) at the RIT Turf Field on Wednesday afternoon.  Geneseo used a 15-4 run spanning both halves to earn the victory.

Maggie Morris gave the Tigers fits all afternoon, scoring eight times and adding two assists for the Knights.  She also added seven ground balls and three draw controls.  Tara Murphy added four goals, while Abby Hungerford had a goal and two assists. 

Defensively, Jessica Gunner and Anna Hutchings led the Knights with a pair of caused turnovers.

RIT jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a goal by #Danielle Previ (Medford, NJ/Shawnee)# (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) 3:46 into the contest after Geneseo had recorded the first four shots.  After Hutchings tied the game for the Knights, #Ashley Pezze (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland)# (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland) gave RIT a 2-1 lead with 21:23 left in the half.  Geneseo scored seven of the next nine goals to go up 9-4 late in the half.

#Eileen Hennigan (Liverpool, NY/Christian Brothers Academy)# (Liverpool, NY/Christian Brothers Academy) and Previ scored twice in 15 seconds late in the half to make the score 9-6 Geneseo after 30 minutes of play.

Unfortunately for RIT, Geneseo scored the first seven goals of the second half, including three by Morris and two by Eileen Coyne to put the game away.

Pezze led RIT with three goals, all in the first half.  She also added a game-high eight ground balls.  Previ scored twice and added an assist, while freshmen #Tina Podrasky (Scranton, PA/Wyoming Seminary)# (Scranton, PA/Wyoming Seminary) and #Megan Henriksen (Silver Spring, MD/Our Lady of Good Counsel)# (Silver Spring, MD/Our Lady of Good Counsel) added two points each.  Senior #Jerica Young (Jay, NY/Northwood School)# (Jay, NY/Northwood School) chipped in with seven ground balls and four caused turnovers.

SUNY Geneseo out-shot RIT 38-34, while the Tigers held a 40-32 advantage in ground balls.  RIT had 42 fouls to just 22 for the Knights.

Hannah McKee stopped 16 shots in the win for RIT.  #Kelsey Evans (Carlisle, PA/Cumberland Valley)# (Carlisle, PA/Cumberland Valley) took the loss in goal for the Tigers, stopping 11 shots.  #Elizabeth Cardella (Albany, NY/Colonie)# (Albany, NY/Colonie) made five saves in relief.

The Tigers return to action on Saturday, as they travel to SUNY Brockport to play the Golden Eagles in a non-conference contest starting at 1 p.m.  It will be RIT's third straight contest against a SUNYAC foe.
