PITTSFORD, NY - The RIT women's soccer team (6-5-3, 3-4-0 Empire 8) had its three game winning streak snapped and had its Empire 8 playoff hopes take a big hit, as they fell to host Nazareth (9-4-1, 5-1-0 Empire 8), 1-0 on Wednesday afternoon.
The Tigers remain tied for fourth in the Empire 8 standings with Hartwick and Stevens.  RIT has now played one more Empire 8 game than both teams.  Hartwick holds the tiebreaker over RIT, while RIT holds the tiebreaker over Stevens.
Christine Belding scored the game's lone goal for Nazareth in the fifth minute off an assist from Chelsea Kuss.  
Nazareth held an 18-12 advantage in shots, with nine on goal to RIT's four.  Nazareth also recorded seven corner kicks to RIT's three.  RIT goalkeeper 
Ashley Valenti (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) made eight saves in the losing effort for RIT.  Hillary Simon stopped four shots to earn her third shutout of the season.  
RIT's freshman duo of 
Chelsea Shoemaker (Rochester, NY/Aquinas) and 
Ashlene Potter (Rotterdam, NY/Schalmont) combined for seven of RIT's 12 total shots.  
Kim Hunt (Brockport, NY/Brockport) had a chance in the 86th minute, but her shot was stopped by Simon.
RIT closes out Empire 8 play on Saturday, as they travel to Elmira to face the Soaring Eagles at 1 p.m.
