ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT women's soccer team defeated Utica College (3-8-0, 2-3-0 E8) 1-0 on Senior Day. The win, RIT's second straight conference win, improves the Tigers to 5-4-3 overall and 2-3-0 in the Empire 8.
RIT out shot the Pioneers 10-6 and had two corner kicks to Utica's one. The Pioneers had eight fouls to just four for the Tigers.
Ashley Valenti (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) picked up her second shut out of the season, making two saves for her fifth win of the season.
After a scoreless first half, RIT's
Allyson Pisher (Holley, NY/Holley) gave the Tigers the lead off a corner kick.
Chelsea Shoemaker (Rochester, NY/Aquinas) swung a ball from the corner. Pisher out-leaped the Utica defense and headed in her third goal of the season. RIT's defense held on, allowing just three second-half shots.
The Tigers will go for three in a row on Thursday, October 15 when they host Alfred University in Empire 8 action. Kick-off is at 4 pm on RIT Field.
