Women's Basketball Loses at Utica

UTICA, NY -- The RIT women's basketball team was defeated by Utica College 66-50 in Empire 8 action on Friday night. The loss drops RIT to 3-15 overall and 0-9 in the Empire 8.

#Sharon Dennis (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool)# (Liverpool, NY) and #Anne Wapshare (Blasdell, NY/Blasdell)# (Blasdell, NY) paced RIT with 13 points apiece. Dennis grabbed a team-high seven rebounds while #Kelly Votolato (Raynham, MA/Cranston East)# (Raynham, MA/Cranston East) added 11 points.

RIT fell behind early in the first half , trailing 34-14 at the half. The Tigers shot 30.0% from the floor on 6-of-20 shooting. Tara Holaday (Arcola,IL/Arcola) shot 3-of-4 from the floor and led RIT with six first-half points.

The Tigers played much better in the second half, shooting 46.2% from the floor. In the middle part of the half the Tigers went on an 11-1 run, cutting the Pioneers lead in half to 55-44 on a layup by Kelly Votolato (Raynham, MA/Cranston East). That would be as close as the Tigers would get as the PIoneers went on to the 16-point win.

RIT shot 44.4% from the floor on 20-of-45 shooting. The Tigers were 4-of-10 from three point land but were poutrebounded by the Pioneers 66-50.

The Tigers will face Elmira College on Saturday afternoon at 2 pm in Elmira, New York
