Men's Basketball Loses to Stevens

The men's basketball team was outscored 17-2 over a span of 6:10 in the second half, breaking open a close game, falling 84-70 to #17 Stevens Institute in Empire action on Sunday afternoon at the Canavan Arena in Hoboken, NJ.

Trailing 46-45 at the 11-minute mark of the second half, the Ducks rattled off a 17-2 run avenging an early-season loss at Clark Gymnasium.

Neither team was able to establish control during the first half a period that featured six ties, eight lead changes, and 20 turnovers. The tigers shot 50% (14-28) from the floor in the first half. The teams entered the locker room tied at 33-all following a buzzer beater by RIT freshman guard Shane Foster (Woodland Hills, CA/Calabasas) (Woodland Hills, CA).

The Tigers (10-9, 4-6 Empire 8) were led by senior forward Kenny Gethers (Syracuse, NY/Bishop Grimes) (Syracuse, NY/Bishop Grimes), who had 16 points, four rebounds, three steals, and two assists. Junior forward Mark Carson (Voorheesville, NY/Voorheesville) (Voorheesville, NY) finished with a double-double (10 points, 12 rebounds). Foster totaled 15 points in the loss.

RIT was 25-for-59 (42.4 percent) from the field but just 3-of-20 (15.0 percent) from downtown. Stevens shot 49.0 percent (25-for-51) from the floor. The Ducks held a 40-31 edge on the glass and made 27 free throws to just 17 by the Tigers.

RIT travels to Alfred University on Tuesday evening for an Empire 8 tilt at 8 pm in Alfred, New York.
