Volleyball's Season Ends in Empire 8 Semifinals With Loss to Stevens

HOBOKEN, NJ –
The RIT volleyball team (18-23) had its 2008 season ended by 25th-ranked Stevens  in the semifinals of the 2008 Empire 8 Championship on Saturday. The Ducks defeated the Tigers by the scores of 25-19, 29-27, 23-25 and 25-14.

Junior middle hitter #Vic Petko (East Amherst, NY/Clarence)# (East Amherst, NY/Clarence) led the Tigers with 15 kills and six assisted blocks.  She ends the season with a team-high 545 kills (sixth-best in one season at RIT) and 144 blocks.  Petko was an All-Empire 8 first team selection earlier in the week.

Senior setter Nichole Boxler (Varysburg, NY/Attica) (Varysburg, NY/Attica) connected on 31 assists and accumulated 19 digs to go along with five blocks.  She finished the season with 1,281 assists and compiled 4,258 for her career, fourth-best all-time at RIT.

Junior Ashlie Baker (Northridge, UT/Northridge) (Northridge, UT/Northridge) added 10 kills, while senior right-side hitter Kate Gleason (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) tied for the team lead in digs with 19.  #Heidi Little (Glenville, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake)# (Glenville, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) slammed seven kills.

The Tigers played Stevens tough, nearly taking the second game, before finally breaking through in the third.

RIT finished with a sub-.500 record for the first time since the 1995 season.
