Women's Soccer Loses to Nazareth

ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT women's soccer team was defeated by Nazareth College 2-0 on Wednesday afternoon in Empire 8 action at RIT Field. The loss drops RIT to 4-2-1 in the Empire 8 conference and snaps a three-game winning streak.

The Golden Flyers took a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute. Meghan Finn found Kelly Finn, who had made a run into the middle of the field. Kelly gathered the ball and beat RIT goaltender Ashley Conti (Canfield, OH/Canfield) (Canfield, OH) with a low shot that found the bottom left corner.

RIT generated some good chances in the first half, firing six shots total and four on goal. Emily Traversi (Acton, MA/Acton-Boxborough) (Acton, MA/Acton-Boxborough) had one of her two shots on goal in the first half but Hillary Simon came up with the save for Nazareth, keeping RIT scoreless.

Nazareth slowly took the game over in the second half, generating several good scoring chances. Ashley Conti (Canfield, OH/Canfield) and her defense were sharp. Conti made four saves in the second frame and #Danielle LaFrance (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-N.Syracuse)# (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-N. Syracuse) saved a ball off the line for RIT, keeping it a one-goal game.

Nazareth put the game away in the 84th minute. Chelsea Rinere scored on a pass from Abbey Bentz on a build-up off a counter-attack by the Golden Flyers.

Nazareth outshot RIT 9-4 in the second half and 13-10 on the game. The Golden Flyers took seven corner kicks to RIT's two.

Conti took the loss for RIT, making six saves and allowing two goals. Hillary Simon picked up the win for Nazareth, maing five saves.

RIT, 8-6-2 overall, will finish the regular season on Saturday, November 1 when they host Elmira College. Kick-off is at 1 pm on RIT Fiels.
