Men's Basketball Uses Fast Start to Defeat Clarkson

ROCHESTER
, NY – The RIT men's basketball team (2-0) opened Sunday's contest with a 26-6 run and cruised to victory, 92-69 over Clarkson University at the Clark Gym.
 
RIT took control of the game with a 26-6 run over the first 11:30 of the contest. The Tigers led 49-29 at the half on the strength of 56.0 percent shooting (14-for-25) and 4-for-17 edge in three-point shooting. 
 
In the second half, RIT upped the lead to as many as 29 points and never looked back.
 
Four different players scored in double figures for RIT, and 14 of the 16 players who saw the court scored.
 
Senior Kenny Gethers (Syracuse, NY/Bishop Grimes) (Syracuse, NY/Bishop Grimes) led the way with 14 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals in 23 minutes.  Barrett Zeinfeld (Tucson, AZ/Catalina Foothills) (Tucson, AZ/Catalina Foothills) chipped in with 13 points, while Mark Carson (Voorheesville, NY/Voorheesville) (Voorheesville, NY/Voorheesville) added 11 points, a game-high seven rebounds and three blocked shots.  Freshman Shawn Roe (Corning, NY/Corning East) (Corning, NY/Corning East) did not miss a shot, hitting two 3-pointers and four free throws en route to 10 points.
 
RIT shot over 50 percent for the second straight game, hitting 28-of-54 shots (51.9 percent).  The Tiger defense forced Clarkson into 28 turnovers.
 
The Tigers went to the free-throw line 38 times, making 29 (76.3 percent).
 
Freshmen Nate Korinchak (Strongsville, OH/Strongsville) (Strongsville, OH/Strongsville) and Shane Foster (Woodland Hills, CA/Calabasas) (Woodland Hills, CA/Calabassas) each had eight points and four assists.  Korinchak also had three steals, while Foster recorded two swipes.  Matt Rebisz (Perry, NY/Perry) (Perry, NY/Perry) and Adam Haines (West Sand Lake, NY/Averill Park) (West Sand Lake, NY/Averill Park) scored their first collegiate points.  Haines had six points.
 
Elson Pickering led Clarkson (1-3) with 21 points on 8-of-10 shooting and six rebounds, all in the second half.

RIT has started 2-0 for the first time since the 2003-04 season.
 
The Tigers are back in action on Tuesday, as they host SUNY Potsdam at 6 p.m.
