Click for ECSU vs. RIT BoxscorePlymouth, NH: At the ECAC North Volleyball Tournament, Rochester Institute of Technology defeated Eastern Connecticut State University 3-0 (30-27, 30-14, 30-23). They will move on to the semi-finals Nov. 16 at 12:00 pm.
The Warriors proved to be a very competitive opponent for the Tigers to overcome as was apparent in the first game of the match. The Warriors quckly established a lead over the Tigers which they maintained throughout the majority of the match. As the Tigers learned the abilities of their opponent, the momentum of the game was switched from the Warriors in favor of RIT. The Tigers earned their 30-27 victory. With the advantage of having the first game victory behind them, the Tigers easily held their grasp on the match earning them another win. In the final game, the Warriors picked up the pace, starting off with a quick 3-0 lead over the Tigers. Again the Tigers pulled themselves up and took the victory.
Charity Sanders led the Tiger offense with 13 kills. Following up was teammate Missy Groginski (Brewerton, N.Y./Paul V. Moore) with 11 kills and 12 digs. Heading RIT defense was Katie Sander (Scotia, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) with 13 digs and 10 kills.
Several awards were granted to RIT players. Chris Anabel (Apalachin, N.Y./Vestal) earned Empire 8 Rookie of the Year with Katie Sander (Scotia, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) being awarded 1st team All Conference and Sarah Ballard (Lake View, N.Y./Frontier) being awarded 2nd team All Conference.
