Mike Maiorano enters his seventh season as an assistant coach with the RIT women’s basketball program. He assists head coach Amy Reed in a number of different ways, including recruiting, scouting, game planning, among other roles, and works primarily as RIT’s offensive coordinator.
He along with head coach Amy Reed and fellow assistant, Ralph Damerell, were named the 2018 Liberty League Coaching Staff of the Year. Over the last three years, Maiorano and the Tigers coaching staff have led RIT to 82 wins, three straight trips to the NCAA Tournament, and four straight appearances in the Liberty League title game.
Maiorano was the head boys’ varsity basketball coach at Lima Christian School from 2003-2010. He was the junior varsity head coach and assistant varsity coach at Lima Christian from 2000-2002. In his first season as head coach at Lima Christian in 2003, Maiorano led the squad to the Section V, Class D Championship and was named the Coach of the Year.
Maiorano is a 1980 graduate of Cortland State University. He played one season of basketball and three years of varsity baseball for the Red Dragons, earning First Team All-SUNYAC honors at shortstop in 1979. He lives in Henrietta with his wife Nancy. They have three children, daughters Merissa and Alexis, and son, Trevor. Both Melissa and Alexis played for the Tigers in 2014-15.
