A 2005 graduate of St. John Fisher College, Roberts earned a bachelor's degree in history. He went on to earn a master's degree in intergrating technology from Walden University in 2009. Roberts has completed 12 credits towards earning his second master's degree in international studies from St. John Fisher College.

Roberts has coached at the high school level, including varsity stints at Geneva High School in 2008-09 and Midlakes High School from 2009-12. He also served as an assistant coach at Victor and Bishop Kearney High Schools in the greater Rochester area.

Roberts is active as a counselor and coach at several high school and college summer camps, including Syracuse's Big Orange Basketball Camp, University of Rochester, Hamilton College, Midlakes High School, Nazareth College, and Bob McVean  and Cornell Elite camps.

Currently, Roberts teaches social studies in the Phelps-Clifton Springs Central School District, a position he has held since 2005, and resides in Rochester, N.Y.

Coach McVean says: "Tyler has been a welcome addition the last two seasons with the RIT coaching staff. He has brought outstanding insight to the program, specifically from the offensive perspective. His work on an off the court, especially with recruiting has been invaluable."
