Ray Smith

Ray Smith starts his 16th season as an assistant coach in 2023-24. Smith came to RIT after a successful playing career at SUNY Oswego. Smith, a point guard, was fifth all-time in assists at Oswego. He earned his bachelor’s degree in business marketing and a master’s degree in school counseling from Oswego.
 
A native of Rochester, Smith graduated from Irondequoit High School, and was awarded the Arthur Ashe Sports Scholar Award from Oswego in 2000.
 
Smith is the Director of Next Level Hoops, a basketball development program for hoopsters in the Rochester area.
 
Smith resides in Rochester and is a guidance counselor at Monroe High School.
 
Coach McVean Says: Ray brings experience as a college players and as a college assistant coach. Ray’s ability to interact and teach individual skills is tremendous. His insight into what our players need individually has benefited our program extremely well. Ray’s loyalty to our program is unmatched.
