James Cray begins his first season as a men’s basketball assistant coach at RIT in 2025-26.
Cray spent the 2024-25 season as an assistant coach at Vermont Academy, a New England prep school with a tradition of producing NCAA Division I and professional talent. He worked with player development, scouting, and game preparation while helping guide the program in the competitive NEPSAC league.
Before Vermont Academy, Cray served as head coach at Rochester Academy during the 2023-24 season, focusing on program culture, player development, and preparation for the next level.
In addition to his high school and prep coaching experience, Cray is the Program Director of Team Northeast, which competes on the Under Armour Association circuit. Under his leadership, Team Northeast has emphasized skill development, exposure, and discipline for athletes pursuing college opportunities.
A Rochester native, Cray is currently completing his undergraduate degree in sport management at SUNY Brockport.
