Women's Lacrosse loses 16-14 at Rochester

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT seniors Zoe Heffernan and Grace Validzic each scored four goals in the Tigers 16-14 loss at Rochester, Wednesday.
 
Junior attacker Emma Ripley scored a goal and added an assist while five Tigers each scored a goal. Senior Milena Stephen won four draw controls, while Valdizic and senior midfielder Adele Jones each won two draws. Sophomore defender Jocelyn Lee had three caused turnovers and three ground balls. Senior goalie Ellie Ruddy made 12 saves in net for the Tigers.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • RIT jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter. Heffernan scored twice and Validzic and Trojan each scored to give the Tigers the early lead.
  • Rochester's Sara Mendelson scored with 8:04 remaining in the first quarter to cut the Tigers lead to 4-1.
  • Jones scored followed by a goal from Validzic to give the Tigers a 6-1 lead.
  • Anna Rogers and Alyssa Gorny scored back-to-back goals late in the quarter to cut RIT's lead to 6-3.
  • The Yellowjackets scored the first three goals of the second quarter, tying the game at 6-6 on Gorny's goal with 14:06 to play in the quarter.
  • Validzic and Bovenzi tallied back-to-back goals to give RIT an 8-6 lead midway through the quarter.
  • Jenna Kessler tied the game 8-8 on her goal with 5:17 remaining in the half.
  • Validzic scored her fourth goal of the first half with 4:17 to play to give RIT a 9-8 lead.
  • Rochester scored the final two goals of the half, taking a 10-9 lead on Rogers' woman-up goal with 21 seconds remaining in the half.
  • Gorny scored early in the third quarter to extend Rochester's lead to 11-9.
  • Sophomore attacker Julia Sodoma scored to cut the deficit to 11-10 and junior midfielder Sarah Hallinan tied the game 11-11 on her goal with 10:02 to play in the quarter.
  • The Yellowjackets scored two straight goals, taking a 13-11 lead on Rogers' goal with 3:36 to play in the frame.
  • Rogers and Lorelei King extended Rochester's lead to 15-11 on back-to-back goals early in the fourth quarter.
  • Heffernan scored with 10:11 remaining and again off an assist from Ripley with 8:03 to play that cut the Yellowjackets lead to 15-13.
  • Gorny scored to give Rochester a 16-13 lead and Ripley scored with 3:31 remaining to make it a 16-13 final.
 
GAME NOTES:
  • Rochester outshot RIT, 38-31.
  • The Tigers won 15-of-32 draws and were 14-of-18 on clears.
  • RIT had eight ground balls and caused four turnovers.
