Women's Lacrosse loses 13-11 at St. Lawrence

CANTON, N.Y. – RIT senior Zoe Heffernan scored three goals in the Tigers 13-11 loss at St. Lawrence, Saturday.
 
Senior midfielder Eliza Barton scored two goals and added an assist while senior attacker Jenna Bovenzi scored two goals. Senior Adele Jones won six draw controls, while Barton won four draws. Barton led the Tigers with three ground balls. Senior goalie Ellie Ruddy made eight saves in net for the Tigers.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • St. Lawrence scored the first three goals of the game including one from Tallis Tarbell with 10:31 remaining in the first quarter to give the Saints a 3-0 lead.
  • Sophomore attacker Julia Sodoma scored a women-up goal with 5:28 to play in the opening frame that cut the Saints' lead to 3-1.
  • St. Lawrence rattled off five straight goals, extending its lead to 8-1 on Jessica Laplaca's goal with 10:01 remaining in the second quarter.
  • Heffernan scored to cut the deficit to 8-2.
  • Ava O'Rourke scored to give St. Lawrence a 9-2 lead.
  • Heffernan and Jones tallied back-to-back goals late in the second quarter to cut the Saints lead to 9-4.
  • Tarbell scored early in the third quarter to give St. Lawrence a 10-4 lead.
  • Senior Kate Trojan scored before goals from Tarbell and Lily Stanton gave St. Lawrence a 12-5 lead with 6:32 to play in the third quarter.
  • Heffernan and Barton each scored a goal late in the third quarter to cut St. Lawrence's lead to 12-7.
  • Bovenzi scored early in the fourth quarter to cut the Saints lead to 12-8.
  • Phoebe Spaeth scored to give St. Lawrence a 13-8 lead.
  • Senior Grace Validzic scored to make it 13-9.
  • Barton scored with 58 seconds to make it 13-10 and Bovenzi scored with eight seconds remaining to make it a 13-11 final.
 
GAME NOTES:
  • St. Lawrence outshot RIT, 33-29.
  • The Tigers won 19-of-27 draws and were 17-of-21 on clears.
  • RIT had 14 ground balls and caused eight turnovers.
