Women's Lacrosse loses 24-5 to Union

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT women's lacrosse team lost 24-5 to Union in Liberty League action, Friday.
 
Senior midfielder Adele Jones scored two goals and won three draw controls. Junior midfielder Sarah Hallinan and senior midfielders Eliza Barton and Grace Validzic each scored a goal. Senior attack Milena Stephen won four draws and sophomore defender Jocelyn Lee caused two turnovers and had three ground balls. Senior goalie Ellie Ruddy made six saves in net for the Tigers, while first year goalie Grace Riley made two saves in relief.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Union scored the first six goals of the game, taking a 6-0 lead on Maddy Schiller's goal with 11:35 remaining in the quarter.
  • Jones scored to cut the deficit to 6-1.
  • Union ran off three straight goals, extending its lead to 9-1 on Gillian Joesph's goal with 8:03 to play in the opening frame.
  • Jones scored her second goal of the first quarter before Union scored the final four goals of the quarter to lead 13-2 after the first 15 minutes.
  • The Garnett Chargers outscored RIT 3-0 in the second quarter to lead 16-2 at halftime.
  • Union scored five third-quarter goals to extend its lead to 21-2.
  • Hallinan and Barton tallied back-to-back goals, cutting Union's lead to 22-4 on Barton's goal with 8:36 remaining in the fourth quarter.
  • Sami Bonasia scored before Validzic goal cut the lead to 23-5 on her goal with 3:56 to play.
  • Cecilia Sinopoli scored in the final 30 seconds to make it a 24-5 final.
 
GAME NOTES:
  • Union outshot RIT, 35-16.
  • The Tigers won 11-of-31 draws and were 11-of-17 on clears.
  • RIT had 11 ground balls and caused seven turnovers.
