Women's Lacrosse beats Skidmore, 8-7

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT senior midfielder Adele Jones scored five goals to lead the Tigers to an 8-7 win over Skidmore on Senior Day, Saturday.
 
Senior attack Zoe Heffernan scored two goals and junior midfielder Sarah Hallinan scored a goal. Jones won five draws and first year midfielder Alice Nichter grabbed three ground balls. Senior goalie Ellie Ruddy made a career high 14 saves in net for the Tigers.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Jones scored with 1:10 to play in the first quarter to give RIT a 1-0 lead.
  • Allison Brewer tied the game 1-1 on her goal with 35 seconds remaining in the opening frame.
  • Hallinan scored with 12:36 to play in the second quarter to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead.
  • Julia Cafasso tied the game 2-2 before Jones scored to give RIT a 3-2 lead.
  • Brewer scored to tie the game 3-3 midway through the second quarter.
  • Jones and Heffernan tallied back-to-back goals to give RIT a 5-3 lead.
  • Cadasso scored with 48 seconds to play in the second quarter to cut RIT's lead to 5-4.
  • Jones scored the first two goals of the third quarter, giving the Tigers a 7-4 lead on her goal with 3:18 to play in the frame.
  • Brewer scored late in the third quarter to cut RIT's lead to 7-5.
  • Brewer scored again with 10:38 remaining and Charlotte Taylor tied the game at 7-7 on her goal with 4:32 remaining in regulation.
  • Ruddy made eight second-half saves, including five in the fourth quarter.
  • Heffernan scored the game-winning goal with 3:13 remaining to make it an 8-7 final.
 
GAME NOTES:
  • Skidmore outshot RIT, 30-25.
  • The Tigers won 10-of-16 draws and were 21-of-24 on clears.
  • RIT had 21 ground balls and caused 10 turnovers.
