SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The RIT Softball team lost both ends of a Liberty League doubleheader at Skidmore, Saturday, falling 9-6 (8 inn.) and 6-2.
SKIDMORE 9, RIT 6 (8 INN.)
- First-year Taryn Jones finished 2-for-4 with a triple, a double, a run scored and two RBI while sophomore Madeleine Barstow ended 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.
- RIT plated three runs in the top of the first. Sophomore Carlianna Ewing reached on a Skidmore error and advanced to third on Jones' double. Sophomore Kate Carlone brought home Ewing with a sacrifice fly before Barstow brought Jones across with an RBI single to left. Sophomore Sylvia White completed the rally with an RBI double to right.
- Skidmore bounced back with two runs in the bottom of the first, but the Tigers took a 5-2 lead on a two-run triple by Jones.
- The Thoroughbreds pulled within one with two runs in the bottom of the fourth before taking a 6-5 lead with two in the bottom of the fifth.
- RIT tied the game in the top of the sixth, 6-6, with an unearned run following a Skidmore error to eventually force extra innings.
- Skidmore won the game in the bottom of the eighth on a three-run home run by Rachel Monser.
- Senior Jessica Majot took the relief loss, allowing seven runs on six hits and two walk in 4.1 innings of work. Sophomore Mackenzie Blair started three innings, allowing six hits, three walks and two earned runs.
SKIDMORE 6, RIT 2
- Carlone finished 4-for-4 with an RBI while sophomore Anna Cavotta and first-year Avalyn Leach each collected two hits.
- Sophomore starter Addison Hill took the complete game loss, allowing six runs (four earned) on seven hits and a walk while striking out four.
- RIT jumped out to a 2-0 first-inning lead after Cavotta hit a lead-off single and advanced to third after Ewing reached on a Skidmore throwing error during a sacrifice bunt attempt. Carlone eventually brought Cavotta home with an infield single before Ewing came around on a Skidmore throwing error.
- Skidmore came back with an unearned run in the bottom of the second before tying the game, 2-2, with another unearned run in the bottom of the third.
- The Thoroughbreds took the lead with two more unearned runs in the bottom of the fourth and later strung together a four-hit sixth inning en route to a 6-2 lead.
