Softball falls twice at RPI, 15-1 (5 inn.), 7-5

TROY, N.Y. – The RIT dropped both ends of a Liberty League doubleheader at RPI, Friday, falling 15-1 (5 inn.) and 7-5.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • RPI scored four runs in the first and three more in the second to build a 7-0 lead before plating seven more in the third to lead, 14-0. The Tigers scored their lone run in the fourth inning after sophomore Anna Cavotta drew a bases loaded walk to bring home first-year Madison Passineau.
  • After two scoreless innings in game two, the Engineers plated three in the third before building a 7-0 lead with two runs in each of the next two innings.
  • RIT got one back in the top of the sixth after first-year Avalyn Leach drew a lead-off walk, advanced to second on a wild pitch and came home on back-to-back ground outs by Cavotta and sophomore Carlianna Ewing.
  • The Tigers mounted a seventh-inning rally with five runs. Sophomore Syliva White drew a one-out walk and came around on a RPI throwing error after a single by Passineau. Sophomore Madeleine Barstow plated Passineau with a double to left, before first-year Page Stein followed with a double to bring home Barstow. Stein advanced on a passed ball before scoring on a ground-out by Leach to make it a two-run game, 7-5, but the Tigers stranded two runners to end the game.
WHAT'S NEXT
RIT travels to Skidmore on Saturday (Apr. 18) for a 1:00 p.m. Liberty League doubleheader with the Thoroughbreds.
