ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT Softball team split a doubleheader at Fredonia, Tuesday, bouncing back from a 3-2 loss in the opener for a 7-1 win in game-two.
FREDONIA 3, RIT 2
- Sophomore Anna Cavotta went 2-for-4 with a triple and scored a run while sophomore Madeleine Barstow was 2-for-3 with a double and run scored.
- Fredonia opened the scoring with an unearned run in the third and plated two more unearned runs in the fourth for a 3-0 lead.
- Held scoreless through six innings, RIT put together a rally in the top of the seventh. Barstow reached on a leadoff infield single before advancing to second on ground-out by first-year Avalyn Leach. Cavotta reached on a Blue Devil fielding error and stole second before sophomore Carlianna Ewing drew a walk to load the bases. First-year Taryn Jones knocked an RBI single to left before Cavotta came home on another Fredonia fielding error on a ball hit by sophomore Kate Carlone to make it a one-run game. Sophomore Sylvia White followed with a line drive to the right side, but the Blue Devil first baseman made the catch and doubled off Carlone at first to end the threat.
- Sophomore Mackenzie Blair took the loss, surrendering three unearned, two hits and two walks while striking out five in four innings of work. Senior Jessica Majot threw two innings of hitless relief with four strikeouts.
RIT 7, FREDONIA 1
- Jones finished 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI while Ewing logged an RBI double as the Tigers earned the split.
- Fredonia got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the second, but RIT bounced back with two runs in the top of the third. With runners on first and second, first-year Madison Passineau reached on a third-strike wild pitch, before Jones and Ewing came around on a throwing error by the Fredonia catcher.
- Cavotta drew a lead-off walk in the fifth before Ewing reached on a Fredonia error. Jones followed with her second career home run for a 5-1 Tiger lead.
- In the sixth, Donisi drew a lead-off walk before back-to-back singles by junior Maria Minemier and White loaded the bases. Ewing later drew an RBI walk before Jones plated White with a sacrifice fly for the 7-1 final.
- Majot earned the win, allowing one run on three hits and two walks while striking out four over five innings.

RIT will host Brockport on Wednesday (Apr. 15) for a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader rescheduled from March 26 due to inclement weather.
