Softball sweeps visiting Clarkson, 4-2, 8-3

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT Softball team swept a Liberty League doubleheader with visiting Clarkson, earning 4-2 and 8-3 victories, Sunday.

GAME 1 - RIT 4, CLARKSON 2
  • Sophomore Anna Cavotta and first-year Taryn Jones each finished 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, while sophomore Carlianna Ewing also knocked in a run to pace the Tiger offense in the opener.
  • Clarkson took a 1-0 lead in the first and held the Tigers to three hits through four innings before a decisive fifth.
  • First-year Madison Passineau started with a lead-off single before advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore Madeleine Barstow. After first-year Avalyn Leach got on base after a failed attempt by the Golden Knights to get Barstow out on a ball hit in the infield, Cavotta knocked an RBI single to left to bring home first-year pinch runner Kassidy Donisi, before advancing all the way to third on a Clarkson throwing error that also allowed Leach to score for a 2-1 lead. Ewing followed with an RBI single to left to plate Cavotta and stole second before coming home on a double to the centerfield wall by Jones for a 4-1 lead.
  • Clarkson got one back in the sixth on an RBI single by Ry Garcia, but couldn't find the equalizer, finishing the game with seven total stranded base runners.
  • Sophomore starter Addison Hill (4-3) earned the victory, only allowing five hits, three walks and an earned run while striking out two in five innings of work. Sophomore Mackenzie Blair picked up her first career save, holding Clarkson to a run on three hits over the final two.
GAME 2 - RIT 8, CLARKSON 3
  • Sophomore Kate Carlone finished 3-for-4, tying the program single-game record with three doubles to go along with two runs scored and two RBI while Ewing ended 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI to complete the sweep.
  • Senior Jessica Majot earned the complete-game victory, holding Clarkson to an earned run on four hits and three walks while striking out four.
  • RIT jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the first inning. Cavotta drew a lead-off walk and stole second before coming home on a RBI single by Ewing. Jones later plated Ewing from third with an RBI single before back-to-back RBI doubles by Carlone and sophomore Sylvia White made it a 4-0 game. White eventually came across on a sacrifice fly by first-year Sabrina Hotra for the five-run edge.
  • Clarkson loaded the bases with one out in the third, but was only able to bring one run across.
  • The Tigers took a 6-1 lead in the fourth on a two-out RBI single by White, before Clarkson answered with a run in the top of the fifth.
  • Carlone led off the fifth with a double to left before coming home on an RBI single by Passineau for a 7-2 edge. Carlone later plated Jones with a two-out double in the sixth for a six-run lead that proved insurmountable.
  • Carlone is only the fourth Tiger to hit three double in a game and first since Erin Ozminkowski did it in a 10-10 tie with Houghton (Mar. 25) in 2024.
