Eliza Barton scored two goals in the Tigers 17-7 loss to No. 8 William Smith in the Liberty League action, Wednesday.
Sophomore attacker
Julia Sodoma scored her first collegiate goal and added an assist. Senior
Milena Stephen won seven draw controls, while Barton and first year midfielder
Alice Nichter each caused two turnovers. Sophomore defender
Jocelyn Lee had three ground balls and senior goalie
Ellie Ruddy made eight saves in net for the Tigers.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Kira Fulton scored early in the first quarter to give William Smith a 1-0 lead.
- Senior attacker Jenna Bovenzi scored a woman-up goal to tie the score 1-1.
- Grace Rund gave the Herons a 2-1 lead on her goal with 10:48 remaining in the first quarter.
- Sodoma scored midway through the opening frame to tie the score 2-2.
- William Smith ran off four straight goals, taking a 6-2 lead on Delaney Cassidy's goal with 12:43 remaining in the second quarter.
- Senior midfielder Grace Validzic scored a woman-up goal to cut William Smith's lead to 6-3.
- The Herons scored the final five goals of the first half, extending their lead to 11-3 on Fulton's woman-up goal with 15 seconds remaining in the second quarter.
- Fulton and Cat Colvin scored back-to-back goals early in the third quarter to give William Smith a 13-3 lead.
- Barton scored late in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 13-4.
- The Herons scored three straight goals, taking a 16-4 lead on Katie Grottenthaler's goal with 10:06 remaining in the fourth quarter.
- Senior midfielder Adele Jones scored midway through the quarter to cut the Heron's lead to 16-5.
- Grottenthaler scored to give William Smith a 17-5 lead before back-to-back goals from Barton and junior attacker Emma Ripley to make it a 17-7 final.
