Baseball loses to Wheaton (Mass.) in extra innings, 4-3

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The RIT baseball team held a two-run lead through eight innings on home runs by Caelan Kim and Hayes Waddell, but Wheaton (Mass.) rallied with a pair of runs in the ninth before scoring the go‑ahead run in the top of the 10th to defeat the Tigers, 4–3, Monday morning.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Kim, a senior, put RIT in front with a two‑run home run to left in the second inning.
  • Sophomore Owen Fisher held the Lyons in check, striking out nine over five scoreless innings while allowing only two hits.
  • Graduate student Hayes Waddell extended the Tigers' lead to 3–1 with a solo home run to right‑center in the eighth inning.
  • Wheaton tied the game in the ninth with a walk, a hit‑by‑pitch, and a two-run single.
  • The Lyons scored the winning run in the 10th inning on a sacrifice fly.
     
GAME NOTES  
  • Kim finished 1‑for‑3 with a home run, two runs batted in, one run scored, one walk, and one stolen base.
  • Waddell went 1‑for‑4 with a solo home run, one run batted in, and one run scored.
  • Jackson Rusiecki, a senior, doubled and finished 1‑for‑5.
  • Fisher worked five scoreless innings, striking out nine without allowing an earned run.
  • The RIT pitching staff combined for 20 strikeouts while allowing six hits and six walks over 10 innings.
  • RIT slips to 5–6 on the season with the loss.
