Baseball falls to Washington & Jefferson, 18-9

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – RIT fell to Washington & Jefferson, 18-9, Tuesday afternoon. The Tigers rallied for six runs in the second inning and added three more in the seventh, but an early nine-run deficit proved too much to overcome.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Washington & Jefferson jumped out to a 9–0 lead in the first inning, sending 14 batters to the plate and collecting seven hits, including two doubles and three RBI walks.
  • RIT answered with a six‑run second inning, highlighted by a three‑run home run by senior Charlie Slaymaker, a two‑run single from senior Trent Rapp, and an RBI single from graduate student Max Matteucci. Brady Majchrowicz, a first-year, started the rally with a leadoff double.
  • The Presidents added one run in the second and four in the fifth to push the lead to 14–6.
  • RIT pushed across three runs in the seventh, scoring on a wild pitch, a groundout RBI by  Matteucci, and another wild pitch.
  • Washington & Jefferson added two runs in the seventh and two in the eighth to seal the win.
  • The Tigers' staff allowed 11 walks and four hit batters, while the defense committed two errors.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Matteucci went 2-for-5 with two RBI while Slaymaker finished 1-for-4 with a three‑run homer and a hit‑by‑pitch.
  • Trent Rapp was 1-for-4 with two RBI, two runs scored, a walk, and a stolen base.
  • Sophomore Jack Williams and Rapp stole bases for the Tigers.
  • Junior right-hander Graham Smith provided 4.2 innings of relief, allowing four earned runs on seven hits with two strikeouts.
  • RIT finished with seven hits, four walks, and two stolen bases.
  • The Tigers drop to 4–8 on the season.
