AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The RIT baseball team erupted for nine runs in the sixth inning and received a dominant combined pitching effort to defeat Russell Sage, 14–1, on Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- RIT opened the scoring with two runs in the first inning, including an RBI single from senior Jarin Moses and an RBI fielder's choice from senior Charlie Slaymaker.
- The Tigers added three more in the second, aided by a wild pitch, an RBI groundout from graduate student Max Matteucci, and another wild pitch that brought home senior Trent Rapp.
- Rapp tripled twice (first inning, sixth inning) and doubled in the second, finishing with four hits, including a triple to open the sixth-inning rally.
- Matteucci delivered four RBIs, including a two-run double in the sixth that broke the game open.
- Moses added three RBIs, highlighted by an RBI double in the sixth that capped the nine-run frame.
GAME NOTES
- Rapp finished 4-for-5 with four runs, two triples, a double, and an RBI.
- Matteucci went 2-for-4 with four RBI, including a double.
- Moses drove in three while going 2-for-3 with a double, walk, and hit-by-pitch.
- Isaac Braegelmann, a junior, reached base four times (single, three walks) and scored twice.
- On the mound, senior right-hander Jack Luensmann struck out 11 over 5.0 innings, allowing just two hits and one run to earn the win.
- RIT posted 13 hits and drew seven walks while being hit by pitches three times.
- The Tigers' pitching staff allowed only two hits and struck out 13, while the defense turned a 1-6-1 double play in the seventh.
- RIT improves to 5–5 overall.
