ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT Softball team lost both ends of a doubleheader at Alfred, Monday, falling 9—1 (5 inn.) and 8-3.
ALFRED 9, RIT 1 (5 INN.)
- Sophomore Anna Cavotta went 2-for-3 while sophomore Madeleine Barstow was 1-for-2 with a double in the opener.
- Alfred starter Ava Galavan only allowed four hits while striking out five to earn the complete game win.
- The Saxon plated a pair of runs in the first before the Tigers brought their lone run across in the second. Barstow hit a one-out double to left and eventually came around on a Saxon error on a ball hit by Cavotta.
- Alfred scored another run in the bottom of the third before breaking the game open with a six-run fourth, including five unearned, for what proved to be the decisive eight-run lead.
- Sophomore Addision Hill took the loss, yielding nine hits and three walks.
ALFRED 8, RIT 3
- Cavotta finished 3-for-4 with an RBI while junior Maria Minemier ended 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI as the Tigers put together a 10-run effort in the nightcap.
- Alfred jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first inning, but the Tigers responded with two in the second. Minemier knocked a one-out single to right and came home after first-year Kassidy Donisi knocked a double down the right field line. Donisi later advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a RBI single by Cavotta.
- Alfred scored four times in the bottom of the third for a 6-2 lead and later added runs in the fifth and the sixth for an 8-2 edge.
- RIT got one back in the top of the seventh on a two-out single by Minemier with runners on first and second.
- Senior starter Jessica Majot took the loss, allowing six earned runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out four.
