ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT Softball Team fell twice to visiting Rochester, Saturday, to open Liberty League Play, 14-4 (6 inn.) and 9-1 (6 inn.)
ROCHESTER 14, RIT 4 (6 INN.)
- Rochester built a 7-0 lead, including a five-run second, before the Tigers brought three across in the bottom of the third. First-year Avalyn Leach drew a one-out walk before sophomore Anna Cavotta reached on an infield single. Sophomore Carlianna Ewing singled to right before a throwing error by the Yellowjacket right fielder allowed Ewing to advance to third and Leach and Cavotta to come home. Ewing eventually stole home for the Tigers' third run.
- Rochester rode a three-run fourth inning to a 10-3 lead, including a two-run triple by Julianna Lyons.
- The Tigers got one back in the fifth. Leach led off with a single to right and advanced to second on a Yellowjacket error. Cavotta and Ewing followed with back-to-back groundouts, bringing Leach home.
- Rochester put together a four-run sixth to put the game out of reach.
- Senior starter Jessica Majot took the loss, yielding seven runs (four earned) on three hits and four walks in two innings of work.
ROCHESTER 9, RIT 1 (6 INN.)
- Sophomore Kate Carlone finished 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
- Scoreless through three innings, Rochester's Savanna Hernandez broke open the scoring with a three-run home run with two outs in the top of the fourth
- The Yellowjackets brought three runs across on five hits in the fifth before scoring three more times in the sixth, including a two-run triple by Jensen Smichak, for a 9-0 lead.
- First-year Taryn Jones knocked a two-out single to right in the bottom of the sixth before Carlone brought her home with a double down the right field line for the Tigers' lone run.
- Sophomore starter Mackenzie Blair only allowed four hits through the first three innings, but was tagged for six earned runs over the next two to take the loss.

RIT is schedule to play a non-league doubleheader at Geneseo this Wednesday (Apr. 8) starting at 3:00 p.m. before returning home next Friday and Saturday (Apr. 10-11) for back-to-back Liberty League doubleheaders versus Clarkson (3:00 p.m.) and St. Lawrence (1:00 p.m.), respectively.
