No. 10 Men's Lacrosse cruises past Vassar, 21-9

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT senior attack Tyson Allison scored four goals and five points to lead the No. 10 Tigers to a 21-9 win over Vassar in the Liberty League opener, Saturday.
 
Senior attack Ethan Harkins tallied three goals and two assists, and junior midfielder David Charney scored three goals and an assist. Junior midfielder Erich Acton scored a goal and had three assists and sophomore attack Ryan Sanders and first year attack Brayden Kuczma each tallied two goals and two assists. Sophomore midfielder Ryan Bullock tallied a goal and two assists and first year attack Russell Bollinger scored two goals and added an assist.
 
Junior defenseman Joe Holenstein and junior long-stick midfielder Logan Fletcher each caused two turnovers. Holenstein grabbed five ground balls, while Fletcher and Kuczma each had three ground balls. First year Philip Minardo won 12-of-21 faceoffs and had eight ground balls. Senior goalie Alex Zborowski made six saves, while junior Chase Strychaluk made four saves in relief.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Charney, junior Evan Wright, Sanders, Allison and Harkins each scored in the first quarter to give RIT a 5-0 lead.
  • Tate Tinker scored for Vassar with 6:23 to play in the opening frame to cut the Tiger's lead to 5-1.
  • Charney scored his second goal of the quarter to give RIT a 6-1 lead before Tinker scored with 1:27 to play in the quarter to cut the Tiger's lead to 6-2.
  • Harkins scored off an assist from Kuczma with 48 seconds remaining to give RIT a 7-2 lead and Travis Heller scored with four seconds to play to cut RIT's lead to 7-3.
  • Kuczma and Allison scored back-to-back goals early in the second quarter to extend RIT's lead to 9-3.
  • Vassar tallied two straight goals, cutting the Tigers lead to 9-5 on Drew Mazzocco's goal with 10:21 to play in the half.
  • Sanders and Allison scored two straight for RIT, extending the Tigers lead to 11-5 on Allison's man-down goal with 6:49 to play in the half.
  • Anderson Eads scored to make it 11-6 before goals from Allison and Charney late in the second quarter to give RIT a 13-6 lead at halftime.
  • RIT outscored Vassar 4-0 in the third quarter. Bullock, Harkins, Acton and junior midfielder Nick DiLauro each scored for RIT.
  • Tinker scored early in the fourth quarter to cut RIT's lead to 17-7.
  • Kuczma, Bollinger and first year midfielder Noah Cupples each scored to extend the Tigers lead to 20-7.
  • Heller and Eads tallied back-to-back goals before Bollinger scored with 2:49 to play to make it a 21-9 final.
 
GAME NOTES:
  • RIT outshot St. John Fisher 50-33, including 30 on target.
  • The Tigers went 26-of-28 on clearing attempts and 0-for-3 on man-up.
  • RIT caused 12 turnovers and had 43 ground balls.
