FORT MYERS, Fla. – The RIT Softball Team swept Alfred State, 8-4, and Potsdam, 5-2, on the third day of action at the Gene Cusic Classic, Tuesday.
RIT 8, ALFRED STATE 4
- First-year Taryn Jones went 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and four RBI while sophomore Carlianna Ewing ended 2-for-4 with a run scored and three RBI.
- Sophomore Addison Hill improved to 3-0, allowing seven hits and three earned runs while striking out four for the complete game decision.
- Alfred State opened the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the second, but RIT answered with three in the top of the third on a two-run double by Jones and an RBI single by first-year Madison Passineau.
- The Tigers scored three more in the fourth for a 6-3 lead. Ewing plated sophomore Sylvia White with a two-out single, before Jones followed with a two-run double.
- Ewing brought home two more runs in the eighth with an infield single for an 8-3 lead that proved decisive.
RIT 5, POTSDAM 2
- First-year Sabrina Hotra went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, a run scored and an RBI while senior Jessica Majot threw a complete-game, five-hitter, striking out six, to lead the Tigers.
- Potsdam led off the game with a run in the top of the first, before RIT answered with one in the bottom of the second on a two-out double by Hotra that plated first-year Avalyn Leach.
- The Bears brought home a single run in the fourth, but RIT retied it in the fifth on a sacrifice bunt by first-year Kassidy Donisi that plated Ewing.
- The Tigers broke open the game with a three-run sixth. White led the inning off with a single and came all the way around on a Hotra double. Ewing late plated Hotra from third before Ewing eventually came home on a bases-loaded dropped third strike with Passineau at bat.

Following an off day on Wednesday, RIT is scheduled to face Pitt-Bradford at 11:00 a.m. and Westfield State at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday (Mar.12) at North Collier Regional Park on the fourth day of play at the Gene Cusic Classic.
